Fairies, poems and young talent

I wanted to write about this cake for a long time, because it is still one of the favorite ones I have ever made. I guess the time has come.

I got a message one day from a lady who wanted me to create a cake for her little girl. I have to mention that the girl is super talented in many ways, but her passion is poetry. So the task was to go crazy and make the cake artsy, magical, unusual. It had to include girl's own poems as well. I had quite a long time to think about the design, so I took my time and did my research. At some point I even had dreams about the future cake, because I was thinking about it so much.

So this is what I came up with

My idea was to make a magical forest with fairies, huge tree on top and a chest with letters sticking out of it, symbolizing poetry and the girl's talent for it.

I also wrote one of her own poems on a piece of sugar paper.

And then I decorated the cake with probably my favorite flowers of magnolia tree. I think the flowers really made the cake look like a magical forest.

I also painted the trees and paths with chocolate and put lots of tiny flowers all over the cake.

Very rarely when I finish the cake I have a feeling of full satisfaction. Maybe because I know I am not a professional and still need to learn a lot. Usually I see when the work is done that maybe I should have done it differently, more accurate, using different technique. But this time I couldn't stop looking at the cake feeling very happy. And still I miss this cake.

I would like to thank the woman who asked me to make this cake. I absolutely LOVE when I have freedom to create something that nobody ever made before. My own design, not just a copy of something from the internet. Thank you for the freedom, Susie!

Oh, and it was a delicious vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and fresh raspberries. Everything on this cake was edible, except for fairies' wings.
